Sean and Jen are near to my heart because we’ve been friends since college. You may remembre them from their mini sessions which were some of my favorites! I will forever swoon over Jen’s emerald green dress and Sean’s suit — what are the odds I can get Sterling to do a fancy holiday card next year?
Now getting the privilege to photograph them as new parents was such an honor. It’s such an intimate time for any new parent and there’s always a pressure I feel to get it right. These are the first nice images of a sweet new life and the images moms will look back on for the rest of their lives to remember how small they once were. So you can image I love getting to do this with friends. The scene was set to let their little man and all the emotions of this special day take the spotlight. Everything was just as it would be on any other day, just with a little extra love in the air. This simple setting was the perfect playground for an adorable 10-week-old Archer to steal the show.
Archer was in such a sweet spot being 10 weeks old. Newborn sessions often times are within the first two weeks of life, wanting to freeze the moment in time when they are their smallest. That being said, there is a lot of reasons why I love a slightly older newborn. They may not be as sleepy and squishy but with their eyes open and interested in me, it’s fun to get images of their eyes and expressions. Archer did not disappoint. He tracked me nearly the whole time and I loved photographing his sweet round face.
The neutrality of their outfits was ideal because it did not distract from the moment. I’m dying over his cute cream sweater set. We were able to photograph nearly their entire session in Sean and Jen’s room with just two windows of light because of their neutral outfits and clean white bedspread.
It was sweet to see Sean and Jen as parents. My favorite moment of any newborn session is photographing the moms admiring their new baby. Seeing Jen with Archer soaking in this new life that she created from scratch was so special. One thing I’ve always loved about Sean and Jen is you can tell they really value each other and see each other. You can feel that in these photos. Adding Archer in to their family feels so natural and destined as they already see him and cherish him.
